Write-Ins Bring Brian’s Total Votes Near 7,650
|
The following E-mail was sent out by our campaign’s Ballot Access/Write-In National Coordinator, Matt Erard, on November 21, 2008 indicating our vote totals in the 7,610 area. Subsequent to that note, additional “write-ins” are dribbling in in partial state reports pushing us near the 7,650 vote total so far. We expect more votes to come. Following is Matt’s 11/21 results note:
Comrades,
The 2008 Socialist Party USA Presidential ticket of Brian Moore and Stewart Alexander received 910 write-in votes in the state of Texas! The SP ticket even beat the Green Party’s McKinney/Clemente ticket in Texas by 239 votes! Previously the Texas Secretary of State website had been listing only 49 write-in votes for the Moore-Alexander ticket, however, most Texas counties had yet to report write-in vote totals. If there are any remaining Texas counties that have not submitted write-in vote totals the Moore-Alexander Texas vote tally may still even further increase.
You can see the current statewide and county Texas vote totals at: http://elections.sos.state.tx.us/elchist.exe
With the majority of write-in votes still yet to be counted nationwide, vote totals for the SP Moore-Alexander ticket are now at 7,610 reported votes. The breakdown of known vote totals is below with sources in parentheses. The majority of states where the SP ticket has presidential write-in status have still yet to report any write-in vote totals at the state level. The most awaited among such states is North Carolina where SP presidential write-in votes can reach well over 1,000. The states that have reported write-in results are still unofficial and partial. For example, the very low number of write-in votes received in Indiana and Minnesota do not even include any tallies yet from Indianapolis or Minneapolis where the SP has locals. There were also a few states where write-in votes could only be found on select county websites.

Alabama Presidential Write-insNovember 30th, 2008 Alabama is a state that has write-in space on the November ballot for president, and which has no requirement that write-in presidential candidates who want their write-ins must file a declaration of write-in candidacy. However, traditionally, the Alabama Secretary of State has never included any write-ins in her official canvass of votes. But in 2006, for the first time, she included photocopies of all the write-ins certified to her office, for all office. Now, for the 2008 official canvass, she has again posted the copies of write-in tallies on her webpage. Unfortunately, only 20 counties bothered to send her any data about write-ins. Alabama has 67 counties; the 20 counties that submitted write-in information comprise approximately half the population of the state. In the 20 counties that reported write-ins, Ron Paul and Hillary Clinton were the clear winners. There seem to be 279 write-ins for Hillary Clinton for president, and 273 write-ins for Ron Paul for president. Among presidential candidates who were actually running (yet who weren’t on the Alabama ballot), the write-ins are: Alan Keyes 14, Cynthia McKinney 6, Brian Moore 4, Ted Weill 1 (Ralph Nader, Bob Barr, and Chuck Baldwin were on the ballot). If you live in Alabama, in one of the 47 counties that broke the law and did not tally any write-ins, you should consider making a complaint. Some years ago the Attorney General issued an opinion, saying that counties must tally all write-ins. The only 20 counties that submitted write-ins to the Secretary of State are Baldwin, Barbour, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clarke, Covington, Elmore, Etowah, Henry, Jefferson, Lawrence, Limestone, Marengo, Marion, Mobile, Montgomery, Russell, St. Clair, Walker, Washington. The most populous counties that did NOT report their write-ins are Madison (which has Huntsville), Lee, Morgan, Shelby, and Tuscaloosa. |
