Brian Joins Palestinians in Gaza Protest Rally in Orlando

2300 Palestinians Come Together to Protest Israel’s Invasion of Gaza and Killing of over 800 of its citizens and soldiers.

I attended the Gaza protest rally in Orlando, Florida, yesterday (Saturday, Jan. 10th), with about 2,500 people.  90% or more of those attending, 2300, were Palestinians.

St. Pete for Peace group from Tampa also participated, but the majority of attendees were of Palestinian descent.

I wore several Socialist buttons, carried appropriate signs, and indicated to sponsors my affiliation with the Socialist Party and our support of their opposition to the Gaza siege by Israel.

Brian was told by a coordinator that Jay Jurie, Professor from Central Flordia University and SDS Coordinator, was in attendance with a Code Pink contingent, but I was unable tolocate him.

I carried four of five signs and ended up sharing them with five other Palestinians in the march in downtown Orlando.

The Police were a significant presence, and separated a small contingent supporting the Israeli actions from getting close to the marchers.

The day was a beautiful 80 degrees, a far cry from the anti Iraq war peace march in the same location about 10 months earlier when it poured down rain in buckets.

I was very impressed with the Palestinians and their strong and forthright protest and dissent.
