Letter to St. Pete Times Re. National Health Rally
“Times ignored health care rally”
letter by Brian P. Moore
I wish to take exception to the exclusive coverage by the Hernando Times of the tea party protest April 15.
The Nature Coast Coalition for Peace and Justice, along with the East Pasco Democrats and another health group, co-sponsored a rally advocating national health insurance for all Americans at the new offices of U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite near the National Guard Armory on Spring Hill Drive in Spring Hill that same day, from 9 to 11 a.m.
No press reported on our simultaneous event, except your competitor, two days previously in its Internet edition.
Twelve of our hearty members did show up and we dutifully carried signs and banners, wore T-shirts and buttons with slogans like “No warfare, but healthcare,” “Support single-payer health care,” “Pass HR (House Resolution) 676″ and “Support nationalized health care.”
We believe that health care is a right, not a privilege, and we are very disappointed in President Obama’s concept of a universal health plan, and therefore took it upon ourselves to urge our congressional representative to support the single-payer system, supported by almost 100 congressional representatives in 2008, and they now have 60 co-sponsors so far in 2009.
