Antiwar Demonstration, Sat., Nov. 28, Weeki Wachee, FL
OBAMA ESCALATION OF WAR IN AFGHANISTAN, WITH 34,000 MORE TROOPS, TO BE PROTESTED LOCALLY SATURDAY
Weeki Wachee, FLORIDA, Tuesday, November 24, 2009: The NatureCoast Coalition for Peace and Justice, will resume its antiwar demonstrations this Saturday morning, November 28, from 10 AM to 11:30 AM, at the corner of U.S. Highway 19 and State Road 50, directly across the street from the Weeki Wachee Spring Park, Florida, 34606. Next to Spring Hill, Hernando County.
The peace group is reactivating its members in light of CNN News report on the Pentagon’s announcement today that President Obama will be sending an additional 34,000 troops to Afghanistan, to join the 62,000 American troops already there. Plus, there are an additional 42,000 allied troops in Afghanistan, thus bringing the total combat troop numbers to 128,000,000 soldiers. This is in addition to the 150,000 American troops still in combat readiness in Iraq.
The new Afghanistan deployment, according to CNN News, will begin in March, 2010.
President Obama was quoted today in a press conference that “he intends to complete the Job in Afghanistan.” Obama said he hopes Americans will “accept his rationale” for the increase when he makes his formal announcement next Tuesday, December 1st.
Brian Moore, Chair of the local NatureCoast Coalition for Peace and Justice, said “The honeymoon is over for President Obama.” Now Afghanistan and Iraq are definitely “his wars.” Moore said his antiwar colleagues will protest that “there should be no blank checks [from congress] this time around.” Moore criticized the decision as “another fateful mistake by the American government, and an immoral action of colossal proportions” where thousands of innocent civilians, along with soldiers from both sides, will die needlessly. This will “open up a hornet’s nest” in the entire Middle East, putting Iran and Israel, and Pakistan and India, on a collision course. —END—
